Tracing the history of the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada takes us back to the 1920s when millwork operators in the Vancouver area were trying to create a better climate for the industry. From these efforts, the Mainland Millwork Association was created and incorporated in 1948.

In the late 1960’s the organization expanded nationally and became the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) with chapters in each province. AWMAC Atlantic disbanded after a couple of years in the original association, but it was re-established in 2002 as an active chapter.

The key goal of the Association is to build a credible and prosperous woodwork industry in Canada. It will accomplish these goals by:

• Promoting strong relationships and partnerships among industry members, suppliers, general
and trade contractors, architects and architectural designers and owners

• Standardizing manufacturing and installation methods, and

• Supporting education and skills upgrading within the industry

Over the past 50 years the Association has seen its membership expand to include associate members from other industry sectors (suppliers to the woodworking industry) and affiliate members from professional associations (architects and designers).
